Introduction: Prof. Francesco Strazzari, Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies

The Islamic State has lost its last territory.Hundreds of foreign fighters and Western supporters are in detention in rebel camps in Syria, but others have fled to other countries. What does the evidence tell us that these militants will do next? Which new conflicts are most likely to draw foreign fighters?

This presentation will cover what we know about extremist activity and terrorism by returned foreign fighters, as well as the latest research on what happens to those who continue fighting elsewhere.
